My home style could be described as:
Stone, wood and a garden.
When I was 18, I didn't know:
I wouldn't become a judge.
When I hear 'design icon', I think of:
Patrik Kotas.
Making a Czech brand succeed abroad:
It isn't easy, especially when it involves trains.
My wardrobe must include:
Suits by Vodenka.
When I was a child, I wanted to be:
A bus driver.
A dish from my childhood I remember fondly:
Beef with mushrooms in cream sauce with bread dumplings. My mother discovered the recipe, and whenever it was served for dinner it always brought great family happiness.
A work of art in which I'd like to spend a day:
Veronese's The Wedding at Cana, which hangs in the Louvre across from the Mona Lisa.
A place I will never forget:
Venice. I also have a special connection to Rue Vieille du Temple in Paris.
A strength of mine:
Making money, not spending it.
I listen to:
My favorite songs on Spotify again and again, though I'm getting tired of them. Out of solidarity with Czech Radio I downloaded the Můj Rozhlas app and now listen to the D‑dur station.
The most beautiful sight is:
My wife, pausing over what she has just read.
It never ceases to amaze me:
That many people have a natural sense of truth.
I collect:
Memories of landscapes from my travels, but only in my head — I try to avoid taking photos when possible.
My favorite object at home is:
A footstool. As for art, a glass fish from the Nový Bor glass school.
I enjoy:
Reading, writing, and arithmetic.
The most interesting gift I gave:
A CD of my own songs for my wife's anniversary.
The most interesting gift I received:
A trip to Berlin.
I can't imagine a weekend without:
Star Trek with my family, crisps and wine.
I love the smell of:
Wood — I am the son of a forester.
A book that inspired me:
Módre buny by Lubina Hajduk‑Veljković. It portrays Sorbian life cleverly. I admire how a language community of only a few thousand speakers can still produce a diverse literature, including detective stories.
A hobby that I've completely fallen in love with:
Italy.
I spend more than I want to on:
Wine.
When I want to eat well, I go to:
The florist, where I buy my wife flowers to express my undying love for her wonderful cooking. I’ve always had the most awkward experiences in restaurants.
The last thing I bought that made me happy:
Pierre Baptiste Mon Ami Rouge 2023 — a surprising AI recommendation. Creamy cherry notes with a hint of pepper.
The most useless thing I ever bought for my apartment:
Ice cream maker. We returned it.
Movies I can watch over and over:
Czech Cinderella; The Forgotten Light; Passengers.
An app that makes my life easier:
Revolut.
When I want to relax:
I listen to modern classical music.
I am inspired by:
My children.
Kitsch that I love:
French design.
Designers whose work I admire:
Anna Marešová. Otakar Diblík.
The journey that changed my life:
A night train to Nové Město nad Metují, with a two-hour stop in the freezing cold in Choceň. I wanted to surprise my future wife by accompanying her on her early-morning train to Prague, and she didn’t turn me down.
If I could turn back time:
I wouldn't have invested with Česká spořitelna.
The best advice I've ever received:
Dress better than everyone around you.
My favorite place on earth:
Liberec.
The best thing I've ever invested in:
If we mean a thing in the legal sense, then the land with our house on it.
The things that are most valuable to me are:
Without doubt, relations. They are the essence of everything.
Thanks to Hospodářské noviny for the questions.
